A couple of weeks ago "Portlandia" premiered on IFC. It's a six-part original series of filmed vignettes poking fun at the crunchy/hippie/locavore/feminist/cycling culture of Portland, Oregon, created by and starring SNL's Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, formerly of the band Sleater-Kinney (which sounds to me more like a contributor to NPR than a band name). I've never been to Portland so I probably don't fully appreciate the jokes, but I think it's pretty good, in a quirky, quiet, kinda realistic/kinda over-the-top, cringe-worthy way. Above is the opening bit from the first episode. The half-hour show airs Fridays at 10:30, but this is cable -- so it reruns a lot, and you can still find the first two episodes. You can also find a number of video clips on IFC's website. Kyle MacLachlan, Steve Buscemi, and SNL's Jason Sudeikis have appeared on the show so far, and Aimee Mann (and maybe Sarah McLachlan) will appear on this Friday's episode.
