Do you have ICE listed as a contact in your cellphone? According to some paramedics, you should. By listing a friend or family member under the acronym for "In Case of Emergency" in your cellphone contact list, you can help paramedics and hospital workers get in touch with the right person in the event of an accident. (Rather than, say, an ex-boyfriend whose number you haven't yet deleted.) Begun by a paramedic with the East Anglian Ambulance service in the UK who says he's often struggled to find contact information for shocked or injuried patients, the practice is now being promoted in the US. The idea is that many people carry a cellphone when they carry nothing else, in part for emergencies. Why not put it to this additional use?
Now that I've forced you to imagine yourself lying unconscious in a ditch, here's something to cheer you up, from the old tv show In Living Color.
thank you, I have too many ex-boyfriends in the cell list (note to self--start deleting). This is useful information!

I recently called my brother on his cell and as we were talking, he noticed that his caller ID read "ICE." After a couple of minutes, we realized that he had listed me as his In Case of Emergency contact. I was disappointed. I thought I had earned a very cool nickname. From now on, please refer to me as "ice-B."
